5 spice powder or five-spice powder ie a Chinese spice mixture. It consists originally of cinnamon, star anise, Szechuan pepper, fennel, and clove. It contains five taste groups: sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and sharp. Mee Chun’s five spice powder, however, has a different composition: aniseed, fennel, peppercorns, cinnamon bark, and ginger. Five spice powder is used in restaurants. At home use, the predominant taste of Five Spice Powder must be taken into account. Use only a little bit, the taste can be quite intense.
